Apple is advising its authorized premium dealers and resellers to prepare for new products with 10 and 12 digital serial numbers, days ahead of when it’s expected to reveal a slew of new products. As per the previous reports, Apple plans to switch to random serial numbers starting from 2021 for future developments. In a memo, Apple now seems to be preparing for that roll-out, telling authorized premium dealers and resellers to ensure that their warehouse, process, system are in place and able to receive and ship the two serial numbers formats.
Details about Apple’s new serial number –
For all its product, Apple currently utilizes a 12 digit serial number format. The alphanumeric format may look random while on the surface, actually holds production information such as date and time of production. The new random serial number will initially begin at ten digits; such information will be harder to interpret. Technically it will not be a serial number but an identification number. Anything that reduces fraud is suitable for Apple and its customers.
