Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are the campaign chairs for Global Citizen’s upcoming fundraiser hosted by Selena Gomez to get Covid vaccines to people in the world’s poorest countries. Earlier this month, it was announced that the anti-poverty organization will hold the musical event “VAX Live: The Concert to Reunite the World.” The main purpose is to encourage philanthropists and corporations to raise $22 billion for global vaccinations, mainly targeting countries with less access.
On Tuesday, it was announced by the Global Citizen that both Harry and Meghan would appear at the event, which will be recorded Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. On May 8, it will be air on A.B.C., FOX, C.B.S., iHeartMedia broadcast radio stations and YouTube. Harry and Meghan are also making an effort to raise money for the vaccine-sharing program COVAX. The aim is for medical workers to produce $19 billion to pay for the vaccines.
Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden during the broadcast will also appear as part of the We Can Do This initiative to increase confidence in Covid vaccines. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovć, French President Emmanuel Macron will also appear at the concert. Jennifer Lopez will headline the show.
Foo Fighters H.E.R., J Balvin, Eddie Vedder are also set to perform at the concert. T.V. host Chrissy Teigen, Jimmy Kimmel, David Letterman, and Gayle King and actors Nomzamo Mbatha, Sean Penn, Ben Affleck, Olivia Munn will also appear. The event is part of the more equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. As of now, 60 nations have not received any vaccines as per Global Citizen C.E.O. Hugh Evans.
Macron mentioned in an announcement, “Final autumn, I known as for the sharing of the doses ordered by our nations, to make sure each solidarity and well-being safety.” With the European vaccine sharing mechanism by way of the COVAX initiative that France is inaugurating, they are incomplete concrete solidarity within the battle towards the virus, and they don’t care about borders.
